Unplanned Cesarean

After having a c-section with my first, my heart opened with compassion for the families that experienced this major abdominal surgery. What I didn't realize was that in the world of postpartum doula work, this would be the experience of the vast majority of our clients.

Recovery can be hard, slow, and painful. Not having mobility in this age of doing everything for ourselves is fiercely powerless and against everything our body craves to do for ourselves and for our babies.

Don't try to tackle this on your own. You wouldn't donate a kidney and then decide to host your extended family for a big family reunion, right? This surgery is even more to recover from. Honor your body (that just made a human or two!) and honor your time to repair.

Plus, if you take the time early on, the rebound of exhaustion often skips you and you can get through the first few months in a bigger and more present way.

If you don't have all the support you need, call a doula. We have done this for almost 2 decades as a profession, we know what is needed. You don't have to explain yourself. You won't need to give us instructions. We know what to do.
