Join In The Circle

There is a circle of support that has room for more. There aren't enough postpartum doulas in many areas to meet the needs of all the families that are searching for them. If you have felt the pull, maybe this year is the one to jump in with both feet to this as a career that centers on nurturing, educating, and connecting families to resources and referrals.

You can do it because you love babies, and want to support parents as they get to know them (and recover from intense births or life disruption). You can do it because you love mothers or fathers, especially those that are vulnerable and might feel broken after birth, or need direction about something as foreign as becoming a new parent. You can do it because you love helping to build families up, connect couples, and set the stage for a strong family for the good of the world. And you can also do it because you have mad skillz and you want to earn an income doing the things you do best (like taking care of people and doing the unseen emotional work).

If you think you are ready, reach out. CAPPA has trainings all over the US (and some around the world) where you can begin the journey. Take a training, start building your network, start working through the reading list., and find some families to serve to start you off toward a whole new career!
If you can't find a training that fits at www.abcdoula.com, then search the data base at www.cappa.net. I bet one of my amazing colleagues has an option near you.
There is space for you in the circle. Follow your heart and become a postpartum doula.
