Counting on your Partner for Birth and Baby Support?

We know the hospitals are limiting the use of doulas (boo--doulas increase birth satisfaction and lower interventions like cesareans). And we know that families aren't able to travel to support new babies like planned before Covid 19 hit our world (boo--grandparents and extended family members are a lifelife after babies join a family!).

We have multiple doula ideas for these situations and we can help both in person and virtually...but what if your partner really is the only one that is available to help? Would you want your partner to have doula tips and tricks right at hand? It is a lot of pressure to do everything right when you are pregnant or a new parent. Having someone within reach can be a lifesaver.

We have prenatal classes to help both parents know what to expect. We have virtual private classes to help you prep your home. We can teach you and your partner how to breast or bottle feed, and how to help each other sleep! We have virtual doula services to help you problem solve, to ask those questions that you are embarrassed to ask anyone else.

If you are counting on your partner to be everything for you and baby, make sure there are people you can both reach out to with questions, and to be given some insider tips, especially if this is your first baby. We can't expect our partners to be experts on babies or postpartum recovery, or the emotions that new mothers often experience. But we can relish the beautiful support they give us, accepting their help with things we often manage ourselves outside of birth and recovery. Let's make sure that partners have the tools to make this time the best it can be.
